Marriage License Requirements

  • A current driver’s license, current state ID or passport.
  • Certified copies of birth certificates: If either party is from out-of-state, this requirement may be waived by a judge.
  • Must know Social Security numbers, but no documentation is required.
  • If previously married, a final divorce decree is required.
  • If widowed, a certified copy of death certificate is required.
  • $27.50 for marriage license in Orleans Parish (fee is non-refundable). Fees may vary by parish.
  • LOUISIANA RESIDENTS – 72-hour waiting period period between issue of license and wedding, may be waived by a judge. Bring marriage license to judge at 421 Loyola St, Rm 202 or 204, Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Phone 504-592-9240 for more information. The license is valid for 30 days.
  • NON LOUISIANA RESIDENTS – An officiant may waive the 72-hour waiting period upon application of the parties giving “serious and meritorious reasons”.
  • Either the bride or groom must appear in person.  If one person cannot appear, his or her signature needs to be notarized.

Catholic Wedding Requirements

Engaged couples planning a Catholic marriage should first contact their pastor to make wedding arrangements. It is recommended that couples contact the celebrant and church prior to check requirements and availability before contacting reception halls and other vendors.

Second Line Street Parade Permit

To obtain a permit for your Second Line Parade in New Orleans, contact special events at 504.658.6201 COST: $50.25

The Application for Parade Permit, invoice will be sent. COST: $100.00/Per Officer.

The parade route and size will determine the number of officers needed.
