Your twenties are for trying new things and having fun and that is exactly what Chantel Bales set out to do when she made an online dating profile. Little did she know that she would meet the love of her life. Within few weeks of creating her profile, Chantel and Jacob matched, met, and knew there was something special. A love of the outdoors and travelling connected the two, and thus started a beautiful relationship.
A proposal happened while the couple was on a birthday trip to Pensacola, Florida. While enjoying a breathtaking sunrise on the balcony of their hotel, Chantel noticed Jacob acting rather odd, “I noticed Jacob talking to himself. He was nervous about something. I looked at him and said ‘Are you alright?’ He replied, ‘Yes, I need to get my hat because it’s so bright outside.’”
Chantel recalls that he came back out with his hat folded in his hand. “I could tell that he was really nervous then. I looked at him again and asked, ‘Are you sure you’re alright?’ He scooted his chair next to me and dropped down on one knee!” Chantel said “Yes!”
Chantel and Jacob knew they wanted a simple but elegant fall wedding. The wedding was held at St. Francis De Sales Cathedral. Chantel wore a beautiful gown from MaeMe Bridal while Jacob wore a tuxedo by Rome’s Tuxedos. Touches of navy and silver could be seen in everything from the bridesmaids’ dresses to the décor done by June Gonzales and The Floral Cottage.
The reception was held in Cypress Columns where guests dined on an unlimited buffet filled with seafood, beef, chicken, pasta, fresh fruit and vegetables. There was even a gourmet coffee station.
“The entire day was a great memory,” recalls Chantel, “walking down the aisle to marry my best friend and celebrating our marriage with family and friends definitely made the best memories.” With the wedding over, the couple whisked away to their honeymoon in Rome and Venice.
When planning your own wedding, the first thing Chantel suggests is that you “decide on a date and immediately call the church (if you plan to have a church ceremony) and venue that you have in mind to see if they are both available on the same day.” Chantel wasted no time in this and started planning the week after her engagement. She was surprised at how difficult it was to book both the church and the venue she wanted on the day. Chantel found that “[a]lot of people prefer fall/winter weddings in Louisiana, so most places seem to stay booked from September to January.”
But once all the planning is done and your big day arrives, Chantel advises to “try to relax and enjoy every minute of it. Some things may not go the way as planned, but it always works out perfectly.”
