How did you meet? We met at a mutual friend’s costume birthday party. He was dressed as a baby with a diaper, bib, bonnet, and bottle! We struck up a conversation about it and the rest is history.
Tell us about the proposal. It was an all day affair that started under Friendship Oak Tree at SLM (my alma mater). The legend of the tree says the person you kiss under the tree is who you’re destined to marry. He gave me a quick kiss, put me back in the car, and took me to the cemetery where my grandparents were buried. At the cemetery, he said, “ I’ve gotten your parents blessing, but we’re here to get your grandparents blessing too.” The last stop was the City Park in New Orleans. We went on a gondala ride and he wrote: “Will you marry me?” in chalk under Lover’s Bridge. We’ve gone back since then and it’s still there!
How is/was the wedding planning? I loved every minute of planning. My mom and I love organizing and details so it was a blast. The only stress was keeping everyone else informed.
What was your favorite part of the big day? We incorporated out heritage and family as much as possible and it absolutely made out day! We did an honoring of the parents ceremony in lieu of unity. We had ribbon wands (Irish tradition), Baggies of five Jordan almonds (Italian tradition) and our personal favorite was a huge display of every wedding photo from both sides—parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings, cousins.
What was the most memorable (funny, shocking, etc.)? We had an amazing party from the conga line that left every seat empty to the teddy bear toss for the kids! We had amazing vendors.
